I found a small plastic ARIEL label wedged in between the wicker. I believe this was a publicity basket that came with a packet of Ariel at some point in the 70s.
It has a lid which could be reattached to the body if the basket with twine. It also features a plastic handle.
Would make a lovely storage basket or small laundry basket for a bathroom for example.
