A large antique French mirror from the XIX century.
Beautiful original Mercury mirror plate with ample foxing (black pitting) for that genuine antique look.
The frame is made of wood and decorated plaster which is a technique that was used from the middle of the XIX century.
There is lots of wear to the gold leaf decor, and to the frame itself with broken ane missing pieces of plaster.
This came from a large family home in Burgundy and hadn’t moved from its place since it was first hung.
The back of the mirror is in the original tongue and groove boards.
It’s a stunning piece which I would leave exactly as it is to enjoy the patina and character of the original finish.
It could of course be restored if you prefer.
It measures 75x80cm
